but not every man's greed.”

The Po river, one of the longest in Europe. The white area, right above along the south bank, is sand: river bed exposed by the summer drought. Some 40 years ago, the beach was pristine and the water crystal clear. I used to hang out there with my friends, swimming and playing ourselves to exhaustion. Fantasizing about digging out German tanks left behind by the Nazis fleeting the American liberation.
20 years later the whole river had been turned into a sewer by our indiscriminated and unscrupulous hunger for modernity.
It's refreshing to see, almost half a century later, how municipalities and local governments are now working to bring back and protect the original landscape. Parks are forming along the banks, rare birds and fishes are settling in. Life is coming back!
